The idea for Aha Bright Ideas started brewing in my head in 2008. My first child was one and I was taking a quilting class. You see, I love to make stuff. I always have. My mom taught me and my sister to sew when we were young, so sewing was an inherent part of my making. I also worked in different mediums: cross stitch, art, framing, and so on.
Back to my first quilt. I was having so much fun making it. It renewed my love of sewing. I started making other baby stuff: blankets, bibs, and a diaper bag. I wanted to share my enthusiasm. I was sure the way to do that was to start sewing things to sell and Aha Bright Ideas started to grow in my mind. However, three kids later, it was still just an idea in my head. I made lots gifts for family and friends, but it was just a hobby.
Before becoming a full-time parent, I was a Public Relations Specialist. I did various freelance jobs in PR while they were young and I always thought I would go back to that once the kids were magically “big enough.” Except, as we got closer to all three being in school all day, I didn’t feel PR calling me. I wanted to be creative. I felt a pull to make creativity be part of my every day.
After a winding path of trying to figure out how to do that, in January 2016 I started using my new Silhouette CAMEO®. The light bulb turned on and grew bright. That little machine helped me take off in terms of creativity. You can read more about that here.
Now I am finally here. Aha Bright Ideas is still growing and changing but I know that beauty and creativity and art need to be cherished. They need to be celebrated. They can brighten the world and bring joy. I believe brightness and joy can change the world.
Let’s do that. Let’s work together to create a community where we can share inspiration, support, and creativity. Let’s create our own little piece of beauty and joy in the world. We can use it to make the world a better place.
